Happy New Year!
It’s hard to believe it is already 2019! It honestly feels like 2018 was the shortest year yet. Time just flew by! If you’re like me you probably take this time to reflect back on the last year and do a self audit of all things you accomplished as well as things you would like to improve upon.
Personally, I like to choose resolutions that are “multipurpose”. By that I mean, they benefit me in several areas of my life. So to help you better reach your wellness goals this year, I’ve put together my top 4 multipurpose resolutions.
4 New Year’s Resolutions That Improve Back Health (& Overall Wellness Too)
Resolution #1: Eat More Leafy Veggies
Aside from making your mother proud, increasing your veggie intake is one way to benefit your overall health. Not only are they great for slimming up, but the vitamins and minerals found in them (such as calcium and magnesium) are shown to help patients who experience back pain.
Resolution #3: Practice Deep Breathing
If you have never tried meditation or deep breathing exercises, this year is s great time to start. Doing this daily help improve focus and relieve stress. Something as simple as taking a quiet leisure walk everyday can help with stress induced chronic pain flare ups.
Resolution #3: Move More
This resolution may seem a bit obvious, but the benefits of exercise extend past weight-loss, strength and mobility. Daily exercise can also help alleviate back pain and migraines. And it doesn’t take a rigorous schedule; 30 minutes a day is plenty.
Resolution #4: Drink More
Proper hydration is probably the easiest way to improve your overall health but is especially important for spinal health. The discs between vertebrae in your spine act as shock absorbers to protect your back from normal wear and tear. If there is not enough water available for the discs to absorb what they’ve lost, then it won’t function properly leading to swelling, pain or worse injury.
When you take care of your body, you improve so much more than your fitness. A properly aligned spine helps your nerves function better which in turn, help you focus and make decisions. It could possibly help with your body’s natural healing process.
