Valentine's Day is synonymous with bountiful bouquets, brimming boxes of chocolate, and carefully chosen cards. February 14th is not only a time to remind your [favorite] someone of your love for them, but also a time to show love to one of the most vital parts of the body—our spine!

Here are five helpful ways to ensure your spine gets some much-needed love every day!

Sit with Proper Posture. Given how much time we sit while working at the computer or looking at our digital devices, it's easy to develop poor posture habits. Sit with your back straight and shoulders back, making sure your body weight is distributed equally on both hips. Bend your knees at a 90-degree angle, keeping the height of your knees even with your hips. Rest your feet flat on the floor or, if needed, use a footrest, to keep your knees aligned with your hips.

Improve Your Sleeping Posture. As we spend about a third of our lives sleeping, it's important to have good sleep posture. Sleeping on your side is ideal if you have neck and back pain. Avoid sleeping on your stomach as this position can strain your neck and spine.

Strengthen Your Core. Strengthening your core muscles plays a vital role in protecting and maintaining the health of your spine. These muscles are the foundation for all movement and activity, providing stability and balance to the body. By taking the time to properly engage and strengthen these muscles, you can help reduce back pain, prevent injuries, and improve your posture.

Maintain a Healthy Weight. Not only is maintaining a healthy weight important for overall health but it can help alleviate or prevent back pain and reduce stress on other joints as well. Shedding even a few pounds can give your back a break.

Stretch. Stretching before and after exercising helps warm up your muscles and cool them down. Stretching also keeps your muscles flexible, can help prevent injuries, and can also help alleviate your back pain.

Most importantly, show how much you love your spine by visiting our practice for natural chiropractic care.

In addition to sharing these ways to love your spine with your special someone, consider giving your sweetheart a Brentwood Chiropractic and Sports Injuries gift card, which can be applied to any of our services.
